How to Book Travel when Studying Abroad

By Aarush Kachhawa and Vihaan Nagarkar

Introduction

Planning international travel can be overwhelming for college students, especially those traveling independently for the first time. Many Georgia Tech students travel abroad for study abroad programs, vacations, or to visit family, but often struggle with finding affordable flights, managing expenses, and understanding travel requirements.

Our guide will help GT students plan and book international trips efficiently while staying within a student budget. We will walk readers through the process of setting a budget, comparing flights, checking visa requirements, finding affordable accommodations, and preparing essential travel documents. We also plan to include visual aids such as budgeting infographics and travel checklists to make the process easier to follow.

For students taking part in study abroad programs, these challenges can become even more complicated because they must coordinate their travel with academic schedules, program requirements, and university deadlines. Students may also not be familiar with the transportation systems, currencies, and accommodation options available in their destination countries.

By simplifying the process of travel planning, we hope to make international travel more accessible to students with varying levels of experience. The guide will focus on practical strategies that students can follow without extensive travel experience or technical knowledge.

At the end of the day, our goal is to help Georgia Tech students save more money, avoid common travel planning mistakes, and feel more confident organizing their own international trips.
